SEO Basics Every Small Business Can Start This Week

Search engine optimization sounds technical, but the basics are simple: help Google understand what you do and where you do it, then give people a reason to choose you.

Start with your page titles and descriptions. Each page on your website should have its own title that includes what you offer and where, and a short description that makes someone want to click. Avoid leaving defaults like Home or Services as your titles.

Next, put real text on every page. Search engines read words, not video or images alone. A homepage that is only a video gives Google very little to work with. Add a clear headline, a few sentences about who you help, and a button that tells visitors what to do next.

Claim and complete your Google Business Profile. Add your hours, phone number, service area, services and photos, and ask happy customers for reviews. For local businesses this is often the fastest way to be found.

Publish helpful content. A blog post that answers a question your customers already ask, such as how much a service costs or how to choose a provider, can bring in visitors for months.

Finally, connect Google Search Console so you can see what people search to find you. If you would like a plain-language review of your own site, Virelle Studio offers consultations. Get in touch to book one.
